THEIR STORY

As emotion-filled images of Scott Avett (of the Grammy-nominated Avett Brothers) grace the cover and pages of this month’s Charlotte Exclusive magazine, one of the first things we noticed was the line of text reading: “Photos by Emby Taylor Photography.”

Charlotte, NC photographers Mary Beth and Colin Taylor are the couple and creative team behind Emby Taylor Photography. They have completely immersed themselves in the Charlotte community; becoming a favorite wedding photographer for local brides, volunteering their time and talent for the charity “Dream on 3,” and often appearing in the pages of local publications.

But how did this all come about?

WITH THE HELP OF PHOTOBIZ,
EMBY TAYLOR PHOTOGRAPHY
DEBUTED IN FEBRUARY 2012.

Having a true talent and mind for photography is only part of the equation. Colin and Mary Beth knew they needed an online presence that would help drive business while projecting their brand to the world.

BIG CITY. BIG COMPETITION.

Being in the greater Charlotte area meant an uphill battle to become more than a blip on the radar of local photographers in North Carolina's Queen City.

Becoming established in the community meant creating a brand that stays top of mind, with an online presence, attention to detail, and client experience that sets them apart from the competition.

IN-PERSON SELLING THROUGH PROOFING

For Emby Taylor, the actual photo shoot or event is just half of the client experience. They tailor the selling process to each client by arranging in-person viewing sessions.

The Proofing tool allows them to upload client images to a proofing gallery, customize the layout and design, and add their branding. When a client sits down with Colin and Mary Beth, they aren't watching them shuffle through files and folders on their computer, they are welcomed with their own images, artfully arranged in a gallery made just for them.

Talking through the images with the clients, Colin and Mary Beth can make comments on individual images if they request edits. Or they can favorite images that their clients fall decidedly in love with.

GETTING FOUND ON GOOGLE: WHY SEO MATTERS

Ranking well in Google search takes a little more work than a hope and a prayer. Because of their location in Charlotte, North Carolina, Colin and Mary Beth knew it would take extra work to land near the top in Google search results. They made the decision to sign up for the SEO Engagement service with the PhotoBiz team and worked one-on-one with Alex to learn the ins and outs of SEO for their website.

First, Alex got to know their business and exactly what kind of photography Emby Taylor focuses on. At that point, it was important to make sure their website was filled with content that supported their "bread and butter" business. Adding relevant information to their pages made their website more appealing to search engines and understandable to visitors.

Actively blogging has also added to Emby Taylor's SEO success. They regularly publish new content for their visitors that is relevant to their business and the people who may be interested in it. Similarly, they are active on social media, driving friends and followers to their website and blog.

A LEGIT BUSINESS IS MUCH MORE
THAN FACEBOOK PAGE

The website itself has been a crucial part of the Emby Taylor online presence. Beyond a Facebook page or Tumblr, a website helps legitimize a business and provide credibility for potential customers.

With a portfolio site and blog, they are able to show their work in large, rotating slideshows, tell their story, and offer a way for clients to get in touch. Once visitors land on the site from Google, Facebook, or other sources, they're drawn to click through.

MORE THAN A WEBSITE COMPANY: A TRUE BUSINESS PARTNER

What's it like to work with PhotoBiz? In the words of Colin, "You feel like you're their only client."

In working with Alex during the SEO Engagement Service and the Passionate Support team for day-to-day questions, our goal at PhotoBiz is to be a business partner for each of our clients. At PhotoBiz, we pay close attention to each client and want to get to know you and your business beyond just answering technical questions. It's important to learn about our clients so we can provide recommendations that are tailored to your unique business. With over 11 successful years in an ever-changing tech world under our belt, you can trust that our advice is tried and true. We want your business to succeed.

PHOTOBIZ: THE SOLUTION FOR ANY BUSINESS

Much like Mary Beth and Colin of Emby Taylor, many leaders in the photography industry have found success in a strong partnership with PhotoBiz.

New York Times bestselling author Sarah Petty pairs her knowledge of marketing with her photography business. She helps other photographers learn how to market their business, but at the cornerstone is her website. The ease of creating a new website and the partnership with her PhotoBiz team motivates Sarah to encourage other photographers to move beyond a Facebook page as well.

Blair Philips, a national speaker, utilizes multiple websites to organize his multifaceted business. From weddings and sports photography to teaching workshops at his studio, Blair uses his PhotoBiz tools to show his work, sell his workshop registrations, and serve as his online portfolio and storefront for his business.
